By Euronews with AFP. Japan has accused China of “Disinformation” about the coronavirus and expressed “Deep concern” about its claims in the South China Sea and the disputed Senkaku islands.

In its annual white paper on its defence policy published on Tuesday, Japan blamed China for “Propaganda” and “Disinformation” about the coronavirus, which first appeared at the end of 2019 in the Wuhan metropolis in the centre of the country.

The two countries have long claimed their respective sovereignty over this uninhabited micro-archipelago in the East China Sea, called Diaoyu by Beijing, whose seabed is said to be potentially rich in hydrocarbons.

A primary election held by Hong Kong’s democratic opposition may have been illegal under the new security law, China said Monday, in a statement that shows how far the goalposts have moved just two weeks after the sweeping legislation was imposed on the city.

In a statement late Monday, the Liaison Office, Beijing’s top representative to Hong Kong, said the primary election contravened the law – raising the possibility hundreds of thousands of people were now implicated in an offense.

Antony Dapiran, a Hong Kong-based lawyer and author of “City on Fire: The Fight for Hong Kong,” predicted that after Beijing’s statement declaring the primary illegal, the government may move to “Disqualify all candidates selected through the primary process” from September’s election.

LONDON – Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered Huawei equipment to be purged completely from Britain’s 5G network by 2027, risking the ire of China by signalling that the world’s biggest telecoms equipment maker is no longer welcome in the West.

It will delay the roll out of 5G. The United States has pushed Johnson to reverse his January decision to grant Huawei a limited role in 5G, while London has been dismayed by a crackdown in Hong Kong and the perception China did not tell the whole truth over the coronavirus.

Britain’s National Security Council, chaired by Johnson, decided on Tuesday to ban the purchase 5G components from the end of this year and to order the removal of all existing Huawei gear from the 5G network by 2027.
