As someone who lives in a legal state (WA,USA) it really isn’t like that. At first it was super expensive but as production increased prices dropped. It’s actually cheaper than the black market was before legalisation now. If Mexico gets to export I would expect to see prices drop further.(assuming that the US makes it legal at the federal level)

Mexican Senate approves marijuana legalization bill : worldnews

Today, Mexican senate gave the ultime approval to cannabis legalization. After this, the bill will pass to the another bicameral parliament, La Camara de Diputados, that has less than 3 weeks to approve this.

Today, el senado (one of the bicameral parliament) approved it by 82, 18 against and 7 undecided. In a few weeks (they’ll update the date when it’ll happen, but gotta be in less than 3 weeks) la cámara de diputados (the another bicameral parliament) will decide it, where from 500 senators, more than 300 are from the same political party that started the legalization discussion. There’s no way it won’t happen.
